Letter from John Andrews to his parents, February 14, 1917. In this letter John tells about his first trip to Tatsienlu, their future home and mission field. He just arrived in the town after a difficult month long journey.
“Its been a jaunt, I tell you. By moonlight getting out on the road (after breakfast) at 5 am, walking, climbing, till 12, then dinner, and again on road till 6 o’clock.”
He averaged about 26 miles (42 km) a day.
Letter from Dorothy Andrews to her mother, June 17, 1917. In this letter Dorothy tells about the everyday happenings around her in Chungking, China. It is very hot and the bugs are “swarming.”
“The bug season is full upon us. For several nights the white ants have been swarming. Don’t know what the other foreigners do who haven’t screens. Even with our screens a lot wriggle thru. Then the cockroaches are multiplying these warm days . . . . “
