Tatsienlu, Sichuan, western China. The modern name is Kangding. The town is 8,600 feet (2,621 meters) above sea level. The Adventist mission compound is to the right out of the picture, and you can make out the Catholic church (French mission) on the left side of the picture.

At the left, sitting in the shadows by the tall wall, are two lamas with their long copper horns in front of them. The lamas in the courtyard are taking part in a dance which is part of a religious festival.
