Louise Dederen Digital Research Fellowship

The Center for Adventist Research (CAR) is now accepting applications for the Louise Dederen Digital Research Fellowship, which provides a non-residential researcher with $2,000 of digitization credit. This annually awarded fellowship supports historical research by providing digital files of materials held at CAR. Priority is given to cutting-edge projects that situate Adventism within broader historical or theoretical contexts and that will be published for expansive academic audiences. Consideration is given to proposals for digitizing historical materials that meet all the following criteria (confirming that materials are eligible for digitization is strongly encouraged prior to application submission):

Digitization Criteria:

  • Item(s) stable enough for standard handling on one of our scanners.
  • Item(s)/collection must be digitized in full (books must be complete and manuscript collection boxes must be fully scanned).
  • Selection of materials is under 5,000 pages or 2.5 linear feet.
  • The item(s) is out of copyright.
  • The item(s)/collection can be added to the Adventist Digital Library.

Applicant Criteria:

  • Applicant must be a PhD student, have an earned doctorate, or an established publishing record demonstrating expertise.
  • Applicant must reside more than 100 miles from Andrews University.
  • Applicants who have received any CAR research fellowship or grant in the previous five years will not be considered.
