Description:A print copy of a wood cut done by Gustave Dore and completed in 1866 for a new publication of Dante Alighieri's 'Inferno'. This cut depicts a scene from Canto IX and lines 124-126 of the Inferno where Dante, along with his guide, Virgil, have just crossed the river Acheron in hell and are confronted by a vast plain filled with burning, smoking graves. Dante learns that those who are within the graves are heretics and their followers
