Title: | [Martin Ambs and Julie Shull examining a musical instrument from Congo that was recently donated to the James White Library] |
Description: | A witch doctor's headpiece, one of several artifacts from the Congo currently on display at the James White Library at Andrews University, is examined by Miss Julie Shull, a sophomore from Holt, Michigan, and Martin Ambs of Berrien Springs. On the table is a musical instrument made from a leopard skin. Ambs and his mother, Mrs. Karl F. Ambs, recently gave the collection of African items to the library in memory of the senior Ambs, who was the first general manager of the Berrien Springs school after it became a university around 1960. He was then appointed assistant treasurer of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Mr. and Mrs. Ambs spent 18 years as missionaries in Africa, serving from 1940 to the mid-50's in the Congo |
