| Description: | Joan Katz, captain of the Upton Junior High School team which won the Berrien County Spelling Contest, accpets the trophy from Mary Simco (center) and Cindy Sherburn, members of last year's winning team from Berrien Springs Junior High School. The contest was held this year at Andrews University Elementary Junior High in Berrien Springs. Besides Upton, Berrien Springs, and Andrews, semi-finalists included Coloma, Fairplain, and Immanuel Lutheran of Bridgman. Coach for the winning Upton team was Mrs. Lorrain Weber. Team members included captain Joan Katz, Dan Deitrich, John Hahn, Valerie Jasper, and Mary Rosinski. Alternates were Drew Najjar, Alisa Nelson, and Wendy Orth.
