Description: | CHIMNEY REPAIRED: Robert Miller (on top of smokestack), an Andrews University seminarian and a part-time constractor, recently removed the top 40 feet of the central heating plant chimney at Andrews. The upper portion of the chimney had deteriorated and was no longer needed since the gas now used to fuel the university's four boilers does not require as high a smokestack for expelling excess heat as did the coal which was used when the heating plant was constructed in 1941. The remaining 80 feet of the structure will be strengthened with steel bands and a large crack (visible below bucket in photo) will be patched with mortar |
