Description:Weary of cooking for themselves at 266 Champion Street, the following named students originated the Battle Creek Boarding Club system, employing a Mrs. Welch (who lived on 15 University Ave.) to do their cooking. The club was very popular for a number of years and was supplanted by the dormitory system in the early 1880's. From left to right: D. W. Reavis, I. J. Hankins, John Richards, H. P. Rue, L. T. Nicola, and Joseph Smith.
